What are You Putting on Your Skin? Cosmetics and Health Risks, These days we eat food that is contaminated with pesticides, drink water contaminated by chemicals, eat meat from animals treated with cancer inducing growth hormones and even breath air saturated in poisonous car exhaust fumes. As if this situation could get much worse we even cover ourselves with cosmetics and products that contain yet more dangerous chemicals and additives. |
Read the ingredients of most cosmetic products and you will find a long list of chemicals many of which are regarded to be toxic. Many chemically produced skin care products actually do the opposite of what they are supposed to. Moisturisers that dry your skin, anti-ageing creams that can increase ageing in skin and sun screens that increase damage from the sun. The result of using these product? You need to buy more products to try to repair the damage done. So, while the debate goes on about why not switch to using natural cosmetic products? There is always a natural alternative to the industrial, chemical-laden cosmetic products found in our stores. Many of these are even less expensive than the big-name products stocked on most supermarket shelves. Argan Oil is an excellent alternative to a chemical moisturiser packed with vitamins and nutrients to moisturise and repair naturally. Hair conditioners that are full of chemical substances and that have little permanent effect can be repalced with an all natural hot oil hair treatment, such as our Hair Magick natural hair serum. Unlike the chemical products natural skin care products actually work. 3 Easy Steps for Guaranteed Healthier and Younger Looking Skin. 1) Moisturise daily using a natural anti-ageing moisturiser natural product. Cosmetic Organic Argan Oil is ideal for this. 2) Use a clay based mask weekly oily skin. Every 10 days for normal skin. Fortnightly for sensitive or delicate skin. Clay will gently draw toxins from the deeper layers of the skin. Get a high quality Calcium Bentonite Clay. You may need to mix a little Argan Oil with this to stop the clay mask from drying too much. Use filtered or mineral water when mixing the clay paste using a wooden utensil to mix with. Moisturise with Argan Oil after clay masks as they can be dehydrating. 3) Drink at least 1 liter of water a day - (filtered or mineral water). Dealing with skin problems is explained in detail in the e_Booklets available our www.arganoildirect.com |
Top Ten Most Harmful Chemical Additives Used in Cosmetic Products. Cocoamidopropyl betaine oils Found in foaming cleansers, they are synthesised with ammonia and a toxic herbicide! These chemicals can cause eye and skin irritation. Sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate Chemical ingrediants that dehydrate and inflame skin and separate the skin layers. Sorbolene Added to mosturisers. It coats the skin like plastic and stops elimination of toxins. Glycerine is a cheap ingrediant that draws the skin’s natural moisture from the deeper layers in humidity below 65%. So it is doing the exact opposite of what the moisturiser is supposed to do! One of the many products where the more you use the more you seem to need! Now isn't that a coincidence. Paraffin Lip balms are a good example of a product that needs constant reapplications, never improving the skin on the lips. PEG - (polyethylene glycol) This, widely used chemical, changes the natural moisture of the skin and can make it vulnerable to bacteria. PEGs have also been associated with liver and kidney damage. Oxybenzone Found in sunscreens & moisturisers containing sunscreen. It is a skin sensitizer and a increases UV penetration. It oxidises in light and inactivates natural protective antioxidant systems in the skin increasing damage of DNA under UV light. Oxybenzone is also a hormone disruptor. Where pregnant women were exposed during pregnancy it has been suggested that this can cause and increased chance of a feminised male baby and low birth weight female babies. Oxybenzone has been detected in human urine and milk. So why is this used in many sunscreens? Butylene Glycol Petro-chemical, often cause contact dermatitis. Studies show the potential to produce mild skin and eye irritation, as well as endocrine system alterations. There are also reproductive, brain and nervous system effects. Retinal Palmitate This is a very common chemical added to most anti-ageing products despite that it is restricted in Canada. This chemical is supposed to reduce fine line but decomposes under UVA into chemicals shown to cause mutations in mouse lymphoma cells. Is photo toxic- will cause skin ageing and DNA damage. Ceteryl alcohol Causes mild irritation and contact dermatitis in some users. Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) It is suggested that AHAs may cause the skin to age more rapidly and increase the risk of skin cancer. This may be due to their action in removing the outer layer of skin. This in turn can increase sensitivity to sunlight and increase the ageing affect of the sun. A report into the AHA glycolic acid said that the sensitivity of human skin to sunburn may be increased by as much as 50 per cent in some individuals. Parabens Perhaps one of the most common chemical additives in all cosmetics has possible links with the occurence of breast cancer. Parabens are used in cosmetic and skincare products as a low cost preservative. They extend a products shelf life. Parabens have also been traditionally favoured for their bactericidal and fungicidal effects. Almost all commercially used parabens are synthetically produced. Parabens are estrogen mimickers. An study in 2003 looked at the antiperspirant and deodorant use of 437 breast cancer survivors. It found that women who used these products and shaved their underarms more frequently developed breast cancer at an earlier age. It is important to note that this does not prove conclusively that the use of antiperspirants and shaving caused these breast cancers but some scientists feel that the correlation is enough to warrant more research.
