A report into the AHA glycolic acid said that the sensitivity of human skin to sunburn may be increased by as much as 50 per cent in some individuals. Parabens Perhaps one of the most common chemical additives in all cosmetics has possible links with the occurence of breast cancer. Parabens are used in cosmetic and skincare products as a low cost preservative. They extend a products shelf life. Parabens have also been traditionally favoured for their bactericidal and fungicidal effects. Almost all commercially used parabens are synthetically produced. Parabens are estrogen mimickers. An study in 2003 looked at the antiperspirant and deodorant use of 437 breast cancer survivors. It found that women who used these products and shaved their underarms more frequently developed breast cancer at an earlier age. It is important to note that this does not prove conclusively that the use of antiperspirants and shaving caused these breast cancers but some scientists feel that the correlation is enough to warrant more research. The cause and cure of Arthritis, whether rheumatoid or osteoarthritis, has baffled the medical profession. Doctors prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers and tell patients they must learn to live with the disease.

The side effects of these drugs can often be serious. Theee arthritis drug Opren (Oraflex in the US) was withdrawn from the world market in August 1982 following British reports of deaths and serious liver damage in people taking thdrug. Since 1980, when Opren was first introduced in the UK, there had been 3,500 reports of harmful effects with 61 deaths, mainly in elderly patients.

No Drug has ever cured, or ever will cure, a true case of Arthritis, wrote Dr Hay Dr William Hay who conceived the Hay Diet. In his book A New Health Era (Ponoco Haven, 1939 ).

There are many contributing causes of Arthritis:

• Injuries to the body
• Abuse of the body through drink and drugs (legal or illegal !)
• Allergic Reactions
• Infections
• Stress-Exhausted Adrenal Glands
• Vitamin D deficiency
• and more............

The end result of most of the underlying causes is a deranged body chemistry.

A main cause can be an accumulation of acid end products and as Dr Hay identified, every organ and tissue depend on the Alkaline reserve.

It is interesting to note that in times when hyper acid-forming fast-foods and fizzy drinks are being consumed in ever vaster quantities that many diseases are becoming ever more common.

Dr. James Lambert Mount, author of “Food and Health of Western Man”, described how he had successfully treated 100 people suffering from Arthritis. They were put on a diet aimed at changing the body from an Acid to an Alkaline state, by giving up red meat, flour and sugar and concentrate on salads, fruits and organ meats. There was an average 80 percent success rate varying from “considerable improvement” to “complete cure” .

A Nutritional Supplement Approach
Argan Oil + SAMe

SAMe:You may have heard about SAMe in the media, the new natural antidepressant... and more.

Anti Inflammatory SAMe, or s-adenosyl-methionine is a naturally occurring substance in the body. Numerous clinical studies have shown that SAMe can reduce pain, stiffness, and inflammation associated with degenerative joint problems. When compared to the common anti-inflammatory medications, Naproxen and Ibuprofen, SAMe did an equally effective job in reducing pain and inflammation over a three month period, and without the gastrointestinal damage caused by these drugs.

Clinical studies show SAMe works well in countering the fatigue, inflammation and pain associated with fibromyalgia, a puzzling and hard to treat condition.

Support of Liver Function: SAMe aids the liver in neutralizing toxins, free radicals and carcinogens. Because of SAMe's effects on the liver, it enhances the elimination of various drugs from the body. SAMe has also been shown to protect the liver and body from the effects of excess and unbalanced estrogen levels, seen in some estrogen replacement therapy, oral contraceptive use, and premenstrual syndrome.

Safety:In general, the longer SAMe is used, the more beneficial the results. It can be used safely during pregnancy and nursing. There are no reported negative interactions with other medications or nutritional supplements antidepressant activity may lead to the manic phase in individuals with bipolar (manic) depression. Though not reported in the literature, higher doses may lead to anxiety even in non-bipolar individuals, and if such should be lowered and/or discontinued.

How to Take Same Cofactors: To avoid conversion of SAMe into high levels of homocysteine, known for its increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, you should also be taking the cofactors, vitamin B6 (50 mg), vitamin B12 (1000 mcg), and folic acid (800 mcg), to enhance production of the SAMe precursor, methionine. This is most easily taken as part of a multivitamin, preferably with food, and not necessarily along with the SAMe dose.Dosage: SAMe should be taken on an empty stomach, preferably 1 hour away from food, starting at a dosage of 200 mg once or twice daily. If results aren't seen in a few days, the dose can be increased again, up to 800 mg daily if needed. Most often, 400 mg per day is sufficient.

Since SAMe is unstable at higher temperatures, it should be kept refrigerated whenever possible. Enteric coated tablets have generally been used to ensure stability.

Argan Oil

Argan has long been used in Morocco as a natural treatment for the relief of the symptoms of Arthritis.

Cosmetic Argan Oil is used for external massage oil where it is warmed and then the affected joint if gently massage.

Culinary Argan Oil is eaten and used like a nutritional supplement.

Approximately 1 to 2 tablespoons – 15ml to 30ml per day is suggested.

A rate of consumption of around 1 litre to 2 litres every 2 months.

Argan Oil is very rich in anti oxidants, Antioxidant flavonoids and Tocopherols which are involved in many activities including: promoting good circulation and acting as a natural anti-inflammatory.

Celery

Celery juice has proved invaluable in dissolving and removing years of accumulated acid deposits in the cartilage of Arthritic joints. The the book “the Home Herbal” Barbara Griggs recommended celery seeds for Arthritis and rheumatism because their high alkaline value helps to counteract acid formation in the blood and clear it out of the system.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice has a strong alkalising effect on the body.

You should already be making sure that you are drinking at least 1 and a half litres of mineral water per day.

However the benefit of this can be greatly enhanced by adding the juice of a half to 1 whole fresh lemon diluted in each large glass of water.

Lemons are known to be acidic BUT, rather surprisingly, the fruit has a powerful opposite, Alkalising, effect on your metabolism.

For a short course aim to use around to 2 or 3 ( preferably Organic ) lemons a day or whatever you feel you can tolerate. This can be drunk either as a hot or cold. Add some kind of natural sweetener if you need to but try to avoid adding to much sugar.

Recent research also suggests that adding a half teaspoon of Turmeric Spice in a large glass of water with lemon juice will also be of help.

Lemons are known as a liver tonic and natural antiseptic; the juice of a lemon will destroy harmful bacteria found in cuts and areas of infection. Studies claim lemon juice helps to prevent osteoarthritis, diabetes and the development or progression of atherosclerosis.

Food and Drink that will Alleviate the Symptoms of Arthritis

Alkaline-forming food will gradually lower the inflammatory response of the body by leaving an alkaline residue in the body after being metabolised. These include:

• Lemons / lemon Juice - Mineral water, green tea
• Most fruit and vegetables. Raw is more alkaline than cooked.
• Herbs and spices - Soya produce
• Raw oils, such as flaxseed - Almonds
• Wheat alternatives such as spelt and buckwheat

Apple Cider Vinegar

Arthritis, which affects nine million people in Britain, is an inflammation of the joints and its causes are not clear.

Hills believed arthritis is caused by the body building up acid, which crystallises and lodges between the joints. The acid crystals become surrounded by fluids, causing swelling, soreness and stiffness. So Hills concluded that the condition would be alleviated by cutting down on acid entering the body.

"By controlling the amount of acid going in through diet we aim to increase the alkaline resources in the body that cause the crystals to break down," says Horner.

"The overall effect of apple cider vinegar and honey is alkalising and helps to create the right environment in the stomach to start off the digestive process."

Gall decided to follow the regime strictly - it meant avoiding alcohol, cutting out foods with refined sugar and any citric fruit, as well as taking cider vinegar, mixed with honey, hot water and molasses, after every meal. This was combined with vitamin supplements - including A, B, magnesium and calcium - and a hot bath in Epsom salts.

After a week, Gall began to feel much better and, after a couple of months, she is "pain-free and totally mobile" and can continue to play the church organ. She takes daily exercise but says that the arthritis creeps back as soon as she stops the regime.

All you need to this is a Juice extractor. Centrifugal extractors are cheap and easy to find. You can also buy a “Macerating” extractor which is much better but a lot more expensive – it has the added advantage of being able to process leaves and grasses as well as extracting more juice per KG.

Good vegetables to start with are carrot, broccoli and celery. These vegetables can be juiced and drunk in combination. Celery has a strong taste and can be combined with carrot. Don't drink too much juiced carrot as the vitamin A and sugar content quite high. It is recommended to drink no more than ½ litre to 1 litre maximum in a day.

It is usually enough to juice 4 medium sized carrots and a stick of celery per drink. Preparing juices 3 to 4 times a day should be sufficient to prevent getting too hungry. You could supplement this with some Almonds, Pumpkin seeds and dates for energy. Finally try to include a litre or more of large glasses of mineral water with the juice of ½ – 1 lemon squeezed into it.

In all cases it is preferable to use organic produce to avoid concentrating the phosphates and pesticides which are usually present in in-organic food.

The stable saturated fats reduce loss of moisture from skin while sun-bathing by forming a layer on the skin.
